Did you resolve to give back to the community this year? Here’s a way to fulfill that goal right from the start: become a volunteer with the Connecticut Bar Association’s (CBA) Truancy Intervention Project. The Truancy Project is part of the CBA’s Connecticut Pro Bono Network, a collaboration between Connecticut’s legal services agencies and the CBA.
The Truancy Intervention Project, co-sponsored by the CBA and the Connecticut Bar Foundation, in cooperation with the New Britain Public School system and the Juvenile Court, matches interested volunteer attorneys with middle school students from New Britain who have a substantial record of unexcused absences. The attorney will represent the child in a Family with Service Needs case. The attorney will work with the student, family, school personnel, and other community resources as well as act as a role model to address problems that contribute to the student’s poor attendance record. Training is provided. A six-month commitment is requested. If you are interested in volunteering for this project, or any others in the Connecticut Pro Bono Network, click here to register. While the project is focused in New Britain, anyone is encouraged to volunteer.
