Millman Scholarship Awarded

The New Haven law firm of Wiggin and Dana LLP and the Connecticut Bar Association’s (CBA) Antitrust & Trade Regulation Section have awarded the William G. Millman, Jr., Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to Southington resident Tobias F. Bannon III.

Bannon served as his high school class president for four years and was among the first two students ever elected to serve on the Southington Board of Education. A senior at the University of Notre Dame, Bannon will graduate in May 2007 with a double major in pre-med and philosophy. Having taken the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) in June of this year, he plans on attending law school in the northeast.

The scholarship fund was created in memory of Wiggin and Dana partner Bill Millman, who, at the age of 42, lost his courageous battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Millman was serving as chair of the CBA’s Antitrust & Trade Regulation Section at the time of his death. A 1979 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1982 graduate of Georgetown University Law School, Millman became an associate at Wiggin and Dana upon graduation from law school and a partner in 1990.

The scholarship is administered annually by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and is awarded to a Connecticut resident who is an undergraduate student at a four-year college. Preference is given to students who have been accepted or are enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and who profess a good-faith intention to attend law school and return to Connecticut to practice law. The Antitrust section and Wiggin and Dana each contributed $5,000 to establish the scholarship fund.
