Fairfield’s Warde/Ludlowe High School Mock Trial team triumphed over West Hartford’s Hall High School in this year’s state finals, held on May 4 at the Connecticut Supreme Court in Hartford. Warde/Ludlowe’s team, made up of students from Fairfield’s two public high schools, took on the role of the prosecution in a fictional trial involving a cyber-stalking incident on a college campus, while Hall’s team represented the defense. Each team was allowed to question three mock witnesses in presenting its case in front of a judges’ panel comprised of Associate Justice Herbert F. Gruendel, Associate Justice Joette Katz, and Associate Justice Richard N. Palmer. Hon. Chase T. Rogers, Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, delivered opening and closing remarks, and presented the participating students with certificates of recognition for their success in the High School Mock Trial program. Other speakers included CBA representatives President Norman Janes and Sarah Farkas, law-related education and certification coordinator, and Beth DeLuco, assistant executive director of The Connecticut Consortium for Law and Citizenship Education, Inc.
