CDM Smith, Inc.

Program Summary:
This program will profile the South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel project that runs from West Hartford to the Metropolitan District Commission’s wastewater treatment facility on Brainard Road in Hartford.  This project is a key piece of the MDC’s overall 20-year Clean Water Project to safeguard the Connecticut River and reduce combined sewer overflows into the river.  This 4-mile long deep rock tunnel is 200 feet deep, 18 feet in diameter and valued at $280 million. It is one of North America’s largest wastewater storage and conveyance projects involving the latest technologies in tunnel-boring machines and related construction processes.

CDM Smith is the program manager for the project.  Brian McCarthy is responsible for all aspects of the project on behalf of CDM Smith.  Brian is a program management specialist whose experience managing financial, contractual, technical and environmental risks enables him to lead high-profile projects.  He has successfully managed multi-billion dollar capital improvement programs for wastewater collection and treatment authorities around the U.S.  Brian also serves as a national board member for the Construction Management Association of America.

This program should prove extremely informative for both lawyers and industry professionals, detailing the lengthy process and complex considerations involved in bringing this significant project to completion.

Parking is available at the Vance garage, behind Memorial Hall.
