A Different Take On Psychological Evaluations in Juvenile Court

About the Program: This CLE will look at the Peer Review System for child protection evaluations, the value of the parent-child interactional evaluation and the expertise needed for conducting child protection evaluations. The program will present a primer on the testing and evaluation process itself, as well as some tips from the doctors.

Who Should Attend:

Child protection attorneys and other counsel dealing with court appointed evaluations

You Will Learn:
 

  • How the peer review system works
  • Why the parent child evaluation is important and what areas of expertise are necessary for providing these evaluations to the court
  • What assessments and processes are used, consideration of cultural bias in testing, and options for testing, as well as some advice on examining the evaluator during trial.

9:15 to 9:45  An overview of the outline for the Judicial Branch policy and procedures for Forensic MH Evals in child protection actions

9:45 to 11:00  Dr. Rosado with a Primer on the evaluation process and concepts,  including some tips on examining the evaluator at trial

11:00 to 11:15  Break

11:15 to 12:30  Dr. Berkowitz on the value of the interactional evaluation, how participants should be treated and the  importance of rapport

12:30 to 1:00  Q&A
