The CBA Looks to Fill Executive Director Position

The Connecticut Bar Association is seeking an Executive Director with a start date of November 1, 2017.

The CBA is a volunteer bar, founded in 1875. Membership represents the entire spectrum of the Connecticut legal community, from private practitioners to judges, government and legal service attorneys, and corporate counsel. Membership also includes paralegals, students, and other legal professionals. In fulfilling its mission to lead the profession and serve the public interest, the CBA maintains relationships with the courts and the legislature.

Duties
The Executive Director supervises a staff of 15 that supports an organization with nearly 10,000 members, located in New Britain, CT. The position assists the association's president and Executive Committee, Board of Governors, and House of Delegates in leading, managing, and executing the organization's core activities. This includes implementing policies, strategies, programs, and priorities approved by those governing bodies.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor preferred but no required. Bachelor's or Master's degree in business administration, communications, public relations, or related field; or a minimum of five years of progressive work experience focused on organizational management, legal administration, business, or membership services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain relationships with a vast network of volunteers.
  • Knowledge of volunteer boards and committees and how they operate.
  • Experience and understanding of the court system, legal profession, and the public legal needs, and the intersection thereof.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to be an effective editor and proof reader.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a large volume of diverse priorities and conflicting goals.
  • Experience or familiarity with the governmental and/or legislative process.
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse teams and creating an inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including, but not limited to, engaging in and navigating difficult conversations.
  • Experience managing a membership organization and understanding the changing legal market.
