About the Program

A judge just rendered judgment against your client. Do you move for them to change or explain their decision? Or do you just appeal? What appellate rights are at stake? How you approach this fundamental question can make or break the appeal. And the correct answer isn’t always obvious. Appellate litigators Scott T. Garosshen and Karen L. Dowd walk through their tips of the trade for navigating the murky waters between verdict and appeal. As a bonus, they are in the midst of interviewing a bevy of trial and appellate judges about how they perceive such motion practice and will present the top 10 takeaways from those conversations.

You Will Learn

  • Tips and tricks to get the best decision for your appeal
  • What tools are available to change or clarify a decision pre-appeal
  • What each tool can do and what its risks are
  • Best appellate practices when drafting such motions
