The Young Lawyers Section is sponsoring a group admissions program to the United States Supreme Court, culminating in an admission ceremony at the Court on Monday, May 21, 2018.


Please note that this program is strictly limited to 50 applicants and is open to any CBA member. Our last Supreme Court Admissions Program filled up very quickly. Application spots will be filled with the first 50 registrations received; all later registrations will be put on a waiting list.


The pre-registration form, along with a non-refundable $150 registration fee, is due by February 28, 2018. This fee covers the expenses for breakfast and a champagne lunch following the ceremony in Washington, DC. Once the form and pre-registration fee have been received by the CBA, you will receive information on the formal application process.


The Supreme Court charges a separate admission fee of $200, which will be due when you submit your application. All required documents will be collected by the CBA and submitted in accordance with the program requirements.

Qualifications for Admission

To qualify for admission to the bar of the Supreme Court, you must have been admitted to practice in the highest court of a state, commonwealth, territory, possession, or the District of Columbia since at least January 2015. You must supply a current, original certificate of good standing from the court where you were admitted. Additionally, you must supply a personal history sheet signed by two designated sponsors that you have met with.

$125 - Spouse/Guest Registration Fee

Includes breakfast and a champagne luncheon immediately following the admissions ceremony.

$200 - Supreme Court Admission Fee

This fee is due with your application, no later than March 20, 2018. Please mail or hand deliver to Carol DeJohn.


Hotel Accommodation

Phoenix Park Hotel, 520 North Capitol Street NW, Washington, DC will be our headquarters for this program. It is conveniently located within walking distance to most points of interest in our nation’s capital, including the Supreme Court. Room reservations must be made in advance directly with the hotel no later than Friday, April 20, 2018. Reservation requests received after the cut-off date will be based on availability at the hotel’s prevailing rates and will be credited to the group’s guest room block. Room rates are $229 for a single; $259 double; $289 for a triple and $319 for a quad. Sign up for the hotel online.

Guests at the Supreme Court Admissions Ceremony

Supreme Court rules provide that only one guest per admittee will be allowed into the courtroom to observe the ceremony. This policy is strictly enforced. Cameras are absolutely not allowed. If you bring a camera, you will be required to leave it in an unattended room during the ceremony. Children under six years of age will not be admitted. Those who are not staying at the Phoenix Hotel must plan to arrive at the United States Supreme Court no later than 8:45 a.m. on Monday morning

Cancellations and Refunds

Refunds of the Supreme Court admission fee of $200 will be honored until March 31, 2018.

March 20, 2018
Completed admission application, $200 Supreme Court fee, and all documentation must be received by the CBA. Please mail or hand deliver to Carol DeJohn.

April 2, 2018
Completed admission applications, Supreme Court fee, and all documentation will be sent by the CBA to the Supreme Court.
