Indian Law

Attorney Andrew Houlding

Attorney Houlding is the chair of the Indian Law Section and a partner at Rome McGuigan, P.C. in Hartford. He works in the fields of labor and employment, gaming, and Native American or “Indian Law”. As chair of the Indian Law Section, Attorney Houlding has organized various CLE courses on Indian Law and practice in tribal court. His career started out as an investigative journalist for WTNH Channel 8 News and various newspapers including the Connecticut Law Tribune and New Haven Advocate. As a journalist, Attorney Houlding won two Emmy Awards for his investigative reporting and an award from the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union for exposing an illegal wiretapping operation at the New Haven Police Department. Attorney Houlding handles cases of Indian Law regarding state court jurisdiction over matters arising on the reservation of a federally-recognized tribe, he also represents employers in tribal court. He litigates a variety of labor and employment cases before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) among other administrative agencies
