Written Wednesday, March 18, 2020

The CBA announced today the formation of a 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic Task Force to respond to the growing legal issues and needs in Connecticut arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The task force includes lawyers, judges, and professionals statewide who will be working collaboratively and swiftly to ensure issues and concerns raised by the legal community and the public are met.

“Now more than ever, we recognize the importance of swift action and a united front to address this issue,” CBA President Ndidi N. Moses said. “The composition of our task force will help ensure that we are reaching out and collaborating with various groups across the state so that we get a handle on where the legal issues and needs arise and create a plan of action to help address concerns.”

The task force will be chaired by Barbara J. Collins of The Law Office of Barbara J. Collins, Monte E. Frank of Pullman & Comley LLC, and Dana M. Hrelic of Horton Dowd Bartschi & Levesque PC, all whom have led disaster relief efforts on behalf of the Connecticut Bar Association or the American Bar Association.

Leaders from local and specialty bar associations, other professional associations, legal aid nonprofits, federal and state courts and agencies, and private corporations make up the task force. The task force also includes liaisons to the American Bar Association's Task Force on Legal Needs Arising Out of the 2020 Pandemic.

The task force will help maximize access to resources to assist the branches of government, the legal community, and the health care community with addressing the needs of the entire State of Connecticut. Specifically, the task force will work to identify legal needs arising from the pandemic, make recommendations to address those needs, and help mobilize lawyers and legal professionals to assist individuals who are in need.

The task force has eight subcommittees to help meet the needs of the State of Connecticut, including liaison to the executive and legislative branch, legal aid, the public at large, the legal profession, the financial impact on the legal profession, liaison to the judicial branch and federal courts, and technology.

Revision Note: Earlier drafts of the news item stated the task force has six and seven subcommittees. The task force now has eight subcommittees and the story has been updated.
