Richard S. Order will receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Thursday, April 8. Attorney Order is a shareholder at Updike Kelly & Spellacy PC (UKS) and represents businesses in in federal and state trial and appellate courts throughout the country as well as clients in domestic and international arbitrations and mediations. He is an executive committee member and past chair of the CBA’s Federal Practice Section.
As chair of the UKS’ Pro Bono Committee, Attorney Order established a program in collaboration with Greater Hartford Legal, to help victims of domestic violence obtain restraining orders against their abusers. He trains the firm’s associates in how to represent domestic violence survivors in the restraining order application process. Most recently, despite the pandemic, Attorney Order continues to go to court to secure the temporary restraining orders his pro bono clients need to feel safe and empowered.
The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need. He is one of four attorneys receiving the award this year.
