Mary-Christy Fisher will receive the Charles J. Parker Legal Services Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, April 20. Her record of service for providing legal services to the disadvantaged spans nearly four decades.

Attorney Fisher has held the position of senior counsel of the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center since 2014. She works as part of the Civil Legal Unit that provides legal assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness and mental health issues. Her clients include veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder as well as military sexual trauma survivors. Her advocacy record includes over 750 legal matters resolved on behalf of vulnerable veterans and over 100 evictions prevented. She has transformed the lives of many of her clients, assisting them in moving from poverty to financial stability.

Prior to her work at the Veterans Legal Center, Attorney Fisher served at the Legal Service Corporation’s Office of Program Performance in Washington, DC, where she helped to support a variety of access to justice programs in several states throughout the country. She also spent over two decades working in different positions within the New Haven Legal Assistance Association, including as deputy director of the organization from 2005-2009.

The Charles J. Parker Legal Services Award is presented to members of the Connecticut Bar who have a deep and abiding interest in and dedication to the delivery of legal services to the disadvantaged in Connecticut.
