Jonathan E. Friedler will receive the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Vanguard Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, May 3.
Attorney Friedler serves as an associate for McElroy Deutsch Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP in the firm’s Fidelity, Construction and Surety Litigation Group, where he represents contractors, construction managers, suppliers, and owners in commercial construction disputes, construction-bond surety claims, and indemnification claims, including litigation and ADR. He also handles a variety of business litigation matters, including business torts, breach of contract claims, and partnership disputes.
In addition to his litigation practice, Attorney Friedler represents lawyers in disciplinary proceedings before local panels, the Statewide Grievance Committee, and in presentment proceedings in superior court. He has represented clients in trust account audits, attorney reinstatement, and bar admission proceedings. He assists lawyers in an array of ethics issues that arise when representing their own clients, such as IOLTA compliance, conflicts management, sanctions, and fee disputes.
Attorney Friedler has been active in the YLS for several years, previously serving as chair of the YLS Professional Discipline Committee (2018-2019) and as a membership director (2019-2022) of the YLS Executive Committee. He currently serves as a YLS Executive Committee senior advisor. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, he took the initiative to organize nature walks that allowed section members to safely meet with one another and socialize in-person during a time when they were otherwise only able to meet virtually.
The Young Lawyers Section Vanguard Award is presented to a current or recent alum (up to three years back) of the CBA-YLS executive committee who has made outstanding and significant contributions to the YLS and the Bar Association in general over a prolonged time period. The recipient is an individual who, despite not pursuing an officer position, assumed a leadership role in the YLS and whose progressive and forward-thinking ideas have benefited all CBA members.
