GiuliettiJohn L. Giulietti is one of four attorneys who will receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, May 3.

Attorney Giulietti entered the legal profession later in life, after first serving in the US Army in Germany from 1962 to 1965 and then as a radio officer aboard US flagged ships from 1968 to 1969. In 1972, he graduated from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, NE and was admitted to practice in both Connecticut and Nebraska. After being admitted to the Connecticut Bar, he practiced as an associate of Charles E. Moeller, Jr. in downtown Hartford from 1972 to 1973. After leaving Moeller’s firm, Attorney Giulietti began a solo practice in Tolland County and served in various capacities within the municipal government of the town of Vernon. In 1990, he successfully presented a certified class-action suit in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act to recompensate residents of a mobile home park, who had been forced to rely on bottled water after their drinking water had been contaminated with trivalent chromium by a nearby chrome plating shop during the 1980s

Attorney Giulietti currently operates a solo practice in Pawcatuck. He defends clients in residential foreclosures and represents section 8 residents in summary process actions. While working as a volunteer for Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut (SLS), he has taken on many difficult eviction defense cases. In one notable instance, he provided pro bono representation to a severely disabled client in a complicated evictions case, which involved spending over three years in litigation and filing an appeal to the Connecticut Supreme Court. Although the property owner prevailed in the case, Attorney Giulietti’s efforts allowed his client to achieve medical stability and better manage the challenge of finding a new home. In addition to his activities with SLS, he is also active as a volunteer for Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Connecticut, participating in the organization’s group and outreach services.

The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need. He is one of four attorneys receiving the award this year.
