CBA Seeks Volunteers for New Britain and Bridgeport Pro Bono Clinics

The Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) is seeking attorneys to volunteer their time and legal knowledge at two pro bono clinics. The clinics will be held on:

  • Tuesday, October 22 at the Connecticut Bar Association Law Center, 30 Bank St, New Britain from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 24 at the Bridgeport Public Library North Branch, 3455 Madison Ave, Bridgeport from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“We are excited to offer attorneys an opportunity to volunteer during National Pro Bono Week with these first-time pro bono clinics. Volunteering for the clinics will require a short, one-time commitment that can help those who are looking for legal help get pointed in the right direction,” said the CBA’s Pro Bono Committee Clinic Sub-Committee Chair Jennifer Zakrzewski. “We hope to serve those who cannot be served through legal aid agencies due to income restrictions or issues that legal aid cannot address. A small amount of time can greatly impact someone's life!”

The pro bono clinics will provide the public with the opportunity to speak one-on-one with a volunteer attorney in the areas of bankruptcy, consumer law, family law, immigration law, landlord/tenant, pardons, small business, or tax law. The volunteers will provide brief legal advice to members of the public that have pre-registered. Services will be limited to half-hour sessions, and the volunteer has no obligation to continue to assist after the clinic.

“The pro bono clinics will give our busy member attorneys an opportunity to give back,” said CBA Executive Director Keith J. Soressi. “Year-round, we direct citizens who come into the Law Center to lawyer referral sources. We are excited to open our doors to our New Britain community on October 22 to help meet their legal needs. On October 24, we are pleased to offer a similar opportunity to the public who seeks legal assistance at the North Branch of the Bridgeport Public Library.”

Attorneys can sign up for two-hour shifts, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and/or 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at ctbar.org/ProBonoClinic.

These pro bono clinics are presented by the Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, and Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut in observance of the National Celebration of Pro Bono during October 20-26, 2019. The National Celebration of Pro Bono is an American Bar Association initiative that shines a spotlight on the amazing pro bono work by lawyers, paralegals, and law students across the country.
