Sarah E. Dlugoszewski will receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the CBA’s annual awards celebration, Celebrate with the Stars, on Wednesday, April 20. Attorney Dlugoszewski is a member of Shipman and Goodwin’s Insurance & Product Liability Practice Group and is involved in volunteer programs through which she provides pro bono legal representation to veterans.

Through the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC), Attorney Dlugoszewski provides pro bono legal assistance to indigent veterans facing homelessness and diagnosed with mental illnesses. Much of her pro bono work involves representing veterans who have been misappropriately discharged for symptoms of mental illness, which were misinterpreted as misconduct. In one case, Attorney Dlugoszewski successfully secured a discharge upgrade for a navy veteran who suffered from undiagnosed PTSD while in service, a result achieved in only approximately 15 percent of such cases. She has dedicated over 200 hours of her time to assisting clients through the CVLC.

The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award recognizes CBA members who demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need. She is one of four attorneys receiving the award this year.
