Young Lawyers Section 2018-2019
On December 12, the Young Lawyers Section held their annual holiday party at City Steam Brewery and Café in Hartford. All funds collected from the event benefited The Open Hearth, one of Hartford’s oldest nonprofits. This organization endeavors to help homeless men and ex-offenders enhance their capacity for self-help, self-respect and dignity, and to achieve their full potential as responsible citizens of the state. In addition to providing food, clothing, and shelter, the Hearth uniquely focuses on rehabilitation through employment training, job placement, and transitional life skills classes.
“The Open Hearth is one of those organizations that walks the walk and talks the talk,” stated Young Lawyers Section Chair-elect Amanda Schreiber. “It provides basic shelter necessities, but uniquely focuses on employment training and transitional life skills so that its residents can ultimately be successful, contributing to members of society. The Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section is pleased to have raised funds over the holiday season for this pillar of the Hartford nonprofit community.”
Additionally, the YLS raised over $2,500 so far for the Horn of Plenty food drive to benefit those struggling with hunger. All donations benefit the local food banks in the Foodshare and Connecticut Food Bank networks. Monetary donations are still being accepted until December 31, 2018.
