CBA Secretary, Christine Jean-Louis was recently appointed State Bar Association Delegate for Connecticut to the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association (ABA).

“I believe civic engagement is a duty everyone should take part in, especially in the legal profession, it is extremely important to me” said Jean-Louis. “It is a duty that shapes my perspective and, with the encouragement and foresight of individuals I highly respect, I decided it was the right time to expand my commitment beyond the CBA and into the role as an ABA Delegate. My hope is that I represent my profession and Connecticut colleagues admirably and bring Connecticut's voice into the fold of conversations that can impact our profession.”

Attorney Jean-Louis began her term as Secretary this past July. Other activities in the CBA include member of the Diversity Committee as well as the Construction Law; Federal Practice; Franchise, Distribution & Dealer Law; and Litigation Sections. She also previously served on the House of Delegates for District 9.

Jean-Louis replaces Daniel A. Schwartz, who has assumed the Connecticut State Delegate position previously held by CBA Past President Barry C. Hawkins. Hawkins was appointed District 2 Delegate to the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association (ABA) this past July.

She joins fellow ABA State Bar Association Delegates for Connecticut: CBA President-Elect Monte E. Frank; CBA Past President Livia D. Barndollar; Young Lawyers Section Delegate, Austin Berescik-Johns; and CBA member Stephen J. Curley. State and local bar association delegates serve for two-year terms.

The control and administration of the ABA is vested in the House of Delegates, the policy-making body of the association which is comprised of over 500 members.
