Dear CBA Members,

It has come to my attention that attorneys in other states are receiving e-mails that appear to come from their bar association indicating that a complaint has been made or disciplinary action commenced regarding the attorney or the attorney’s firm. Those e-mails are not originating from the bar association, and instead appear to be an attempt to phish members or introduce harmful software into their system.

Please know that the Connecticut Bar Association does not process complaints against attorneys or any attorney discipline matters. Any communication purporting otherwise did not originate from us. If you receive such a message, please delete the message, avoid opening any attachments, and let us know that such an attempt was made.

Although we have not heard of this happening yet in Connecticut, we must all be vigilant when processing e-mails. To see an example of an email sent to members of the Florida Bar, click here.

There are many informational pieces online to help you identify potential attacks such as this. One such resource is an article from

Be safe out there.
