HOUSE SPECIAL ELECTION

Last week in Waterbury’s 71st district, William Pizzuto (R) won the special election to complete the term of the retired Anthony J. D’Amelio. Pizzuto won the election with 74 percent of the vote in this district.

The House and the Senate will likely start to meet in session on a regular basis during the week, beginning this week to vote on judges. With numerous public hearings and committee votes being held, bills will start to move to the chambers for votes. The session ends on May 4, 2022, after which members of the legislature will focus on their campaigns for reelection.

IN THE LEGISLATURE

Committees have raised all bills for the session at this time. Raised bills will be fully drafted and be given senate or house numbers and will be scheduled for public hearings in committee during March. The final committee deadlines for bills receiving joint favorable will be in the first week of April. Most committees have already scheduled their meetings for the rest of the session. Committees need to not only hold public hearings, but need to then vote on whether to approve these bills. Some committees will hold votes on bills previously heard that day. Others will wait to have committee meetings to vote later in the month.
