Dear Members of the Young Lawyers Section,
I am Lawrence Morizio, the Chair-Elect of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Young Lawyers Section. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and provide you with an opportunity to contribute to our section for the upcoming year and beyond.
I, along with the other current CBA YLS officers (current Chair Daniel Krisch, Treasurer Proloy Das, and Secretary Jeffrey White) are in the process of appointing individuals to chair or co-chair Substantive Committees and Local Unit positions for the upcoming Bar year (2008-09) to the Executive Committee. These positions are limited. We are seeking committed and enthusiastic attorneys that will organize programs and seminars on behalf of their respective Committees.
I have attached a survey outlining the various substantive committees and local units within the Young Lawyers Section. Please complete the form and submit it to my attention should you wish to be appointed as a chair or co-chair of the relevant Substantive Committee/Local Unit or Diversity Liaison. Please note that while completion of the form does not guarantee a position on the Executive Committee, the submission will allow us to confirm your interest in a leadership role for future reference. Please click here to download the survey. Please return the survey to my attention by Friday, April 18, 2008.
Each year, the members appointed to the Executive Committee must attend the Young Lawyers Section Retreat. This year, the Retreat is scheduled for Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Mystic Marriott. Each member is expected to attend the full-day and afternoon sessions on Friday and the brief planning workshop scheduled for Saturday morning. The CBA will reserve rooms for those in attendance for the overnight stay.
The Executive Committee meets once a month on the second Wednesday of the calendar to address the status of pending events and to discuss relevant topics affecting our Section. These dinner meetings usually begin at 6:30 p.m. and end before 8:00 p.m.
In the event you are interested in an appointment, I strongly suggest that your schedule allow for your presence at the monthly meetings (which start in September 2008 and run through May 2009) as well as the Retreat (June 13 and 14, 2008). I will contact you directly to discuss your request.
In addition, we are always looking for energetic individuals to assist with the programming we have scheduled throughout the year. The YLS is committed to ongoing public service projects, pro bono work, the diversity initiative, and law student activities. Should you express interest in any of these areas by way of the survey I will make sure to put you in touch with the responsible person or persons within the section to facilitate your participation.
Thank you again and I look forward to serving you this upcoming bar year.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Morizio
Chair-Elect
