Kenneth W. Starr, Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean and Professor of Law, Pepperdine University School of Law, will be the featured speaker at the Third Annual CBA/YLS Distinguished Speaker Luncheon at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at The Hartford Club in Hartford.
Starr served as solicitor general of the United States from 1989 to 1993. As solicitor general, Starr argued 25 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Starr also served as U.S. Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia from 1983 to 1989. In August 1994, Starr was appointed to serve as independent counsel for five investigations, including Whitewater, until October 1999. He is the author of First Among Equals: The Supreme Court in American Life. The book was written to explain key decisions by the Justices of the Supreme Court. Starr has volunteered many hours teaching in the inner city and assisting disadvantaged students in Washington, D.C., with summer internships, after school programs, and financial help for attending college.
The Distinguished Speaker Series originated in 2006 with an address by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to a luncheon audience of 250 young lawyers, distinguished guests, and members of the state and federal judiciaries.
