K1 The Effects of Depression and Addiction on Women Professionals
Women in the Law Committee/YLS Women in the Law Committee/Lawyers Concerned for
Lawyers-CT, Inc.
Presented by special guest Speaker Dr. Susan Blank of the Caron Foundation.
Current statistics show that substance abuse is twice as likely among attorneys
as compared to the general population, and women generally suffer major depressive
episodes at more than twice the rate of men. Women attorneys represent forty to
fifty percent of the legal workforce, yet represent less than ten percent of attorneys
seeking help for addiction. These statistics reveal serious issues among women
in the legal profession that need to be addressed. This program will examine the
problem and some of the solutions.
