CONNECTICUT HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITIONS
Give today’s youth the opportunity to experience the excitement you felt in your first mock trial by volunteering for the 2008-2009 Connecticut High School and Middle School Mock Trial Competitions!
This statewide program remains the premier educational offering of the CBA.
It continues to grow in size and popularity. We are indebted to the CBA members
who have generously contributed their time to coach, advise and judge the
students for the Mock Trial Program. We hope you’ll continue your support
by volunteering your time to the program.
Volunteer Opportunities
Middle School Mock Trial Student Workshops:
Regional Competitions
Wednesday, December 3, 2008- East Hartford Middle School
Thursday, December 4, 2008- Canton Middle School
Monday, December 8, 2008- Polson Middle School
Wednesday, December 10, 2008- Bethel Middle School
All competitions are run in two rounds. The first is from 4-5:30 p.m.; the second from 6-7:30 p.m. Judges should arrive 30 minutes before their round for instruction and room assignments.
Coach: Attorney coaches work with teachers to advise teams on courtroom
style, cross-examination, as well as preparing opening and closing arguments.
As a coach, you’ll provide instruction and feedback for mock trial participants
on a regular basis for several months.
Judge: Attorneys judging the early rounds of middle school competitions
work on a solo basis. For middle school finals, and for all high school competitions,
a panel of three attorneys chooses a winner.
Advisor: An attorney advisor gives pointers, observes a practice match
and offers constructive criticism. Advisors put in less time than coaches and
serve as a good source of professional advice.
