COURT VISITATION PROGRAM
The Connecticut Court Visitation Program allows young people to
visit a courtroom without being in trouble. Students observe the basic steps
used in civil and criminal court procedures. They sit in on an arraignment
session and are often able to see part of a trial, go to a lock-up, and
speak with judges, prosecutors, bailiffs, and clerks. Over the program’s 25
year history, 70,000 students have benefited from this unique experience.
Consider bringing your class to a superior court near you through the Court
Visitation Program. The program contains three components:
- The Connecticut Court Visitation Program Manual is free to
teachers, and contains helpful exercises and information to prepare students
for their visit. We also provide the acclaimed Notes on Sentencing in
Connecticut, free of charge.
- An attorney volunteer will guide your class through the tour, explaining
various court procedures and introducing court personnel.
- Attorney volunteers are available to speak with your class before or after
the visit to further instruct the students on what they will witness, or
have witnessed in court.
