CBA'S ADULT CIVIC EDUCATION PROGRAM
New Britain-As part of its expanding law-related education program, the Connecticut
Bar Association (CBA) has launched an adult civic education initiative that
will offer civic education classes to the public free of charge. Providing
civic education to students in middle and high school has already been a vital
piece of the CBA's mission for over thirty years. Under the leadership of
CBA President Norman K. Janes, the adult civic education program will provide
an opportunity for lawyers to share their expertise in civic issues with adults.
Volunteer attorneys will serve as facilitators and presenters for these civic
education classes, which will range from 30-minute lectures, to four-or eight-week
courses. Lesson plans and training will be provided by the CBA. Using real-life
scenarios, participants will learn how our government affects their daily
lives, through discussions of topical issues such as eminent domain, government
wiretapping, the death penalty, and the right-to-die debate.
The Connecticut Bar Association is a membership organization serving Connecticut
attorneys and the legal profession by working to advance the principles of
justice, the practice of law, the image of the profession, and public understanding
of the law.
