(l-r)Attorney Robert M. Langer, Wiggin and Dana; Pamela P. Millman; scholarship recipient Katie McCann; and William S. Speranza, Wiggin and Dana. |
The Connecticut Bar Association’s Antitrust & Trade Regulation Section and
the New Haven law firm of Wiggin and Dana LLP have awarded the first William G.
Millman, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to South Windsor
resident Katherine McCann. McCann is a freshman at the University of Notre Dame.
A National Honor Merit Commended Scholar and a member of the National Honor
Society for two years, McCann graduated fifth in her class of 180 students from
East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut.
The scholarship fund was created in memory of Wiggin and Dana’s partner Bill
Millman, who, at the age of 42, lost his courageous battle with non-hodgkins
lymphoma. Millman was also serving as Chair of the CBA’s Antitrust & Trade
Regulation Section at the time of his death. A 1979 graduate of the University
of Notre Dame and a 1982 graduate of Georgetown University Law School, Millman
became an associate at Wiggin and Dana upon graduation from law school and a
partner in 1990. Bill Millman’s widow, Pam Millman, commented on the selection,
saying: "I think Katie McCann is a wonderful young woman and I am so happy to
see the funds from the scholarship created in my husband’s name go to supporting
her career at Notre Dame—an institution my husband loved."
The scholarship is administered annually by The Community Foundation for
Greater New Haven and is awarded to a Connecticut resident who is an
undergraduate student at a four-year college. Preference is given to students
who have been accepted or are enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and who
profess a good faith intention to attend law school and return to Connecticut to
practice law. The CBA’s Antitrust Section and Wiggin and Dana each contributed
$5,000 to establish the scholarship fund.
