Law Day Ceremonies Held at Hartford Superior Court
On May 1, 2006, the Hartford County Bar Association (HCBA) sponsored the 58th annual Law Day ceremonies held at the Hartford Superior Court. Anthony J. Natale, president-elect, HCBA, read the official Law Day Proclamation issued by Governor M. Jodi Rell. The Honorable David M. Borden (pictured at letf), Connecticut Supreme Court, spoke on this year's theme, "Liberty Under the Law: Separate Branches, Balance Powers."
During the ceremonies, scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000 were given to three seniors from Hartford area high schools. The students were selected based on their essay entries.
Pro Bono awards were given to T.R. Paulding, Jr., and Thomas J. Groark, Jr./Day, Berry and Howard legal team for their work on the landmark Michael Ross death penalty case.
In addition, the 2006 Liberty Bell Award was presented to the Washington Street Juvenile Detention Center for Girls. The Liberty Bell Award is given annually to nonlawyers in Hartford County who demonstrate civic responsibility throughout the community.
