Section & Committee Chair Training Overview

September 12, 2014 @ 30 Bank Street, New Britain

Registration  8:30 a.m.  Meeting Starts 9:00 a.m.  Meeting Ends  4:30 p.m.

Morning Coffee, Lunch and break refreshments included.

 

What this meeting is:

Hands-on practical training in the things you need to know to run your Section or Committee most effectively with our new systems and updated procedures.

Manage communication with your section or committee on our new system

o   Emails, Messages, Blogs, Forums, Web Pages, Calendars, Social Media

Meetings and Events

o   Scheduling meetings (all new processes)

o   Marketing and promoting your events to increase attendance

CLE / Education

o   New rules for giving CLE Credit

o   How to build great learning outcomes

o   Promoting and marketing your event

Marketing & Public Relations

o   How to work with the media to promote events & activities

o   Getting public recognition for your Section’s activities

o   Social Media best practices & guidelines

Legislative & Governance

o   How to get approved to take a Section or Association position

o   Influencing legislative policy and making the most of your lobbyists

o   When you need to get House or Board approval for Section activities

Finance

o   Key rules for managing Section finances

o   Rules for gifts to public officials

o   Reporting and reimbursement requirements

Why attend?

Almost everything is new this year

Each Section and Committee should be represented at this training, even those who have served for several years.

Chairs who cannot attend should send a representative.   Chairs may also invite other Committee Members, including Vice Chairpersons, Treasurers, Legislative Liaisons, Education or communication leaders.

 

What is the format?

This is not the “retreat” of prior years.  It is a working session focused on delivering the information you need in the most time-efficient way possible. 

We will have opportunity for hands-on feedback, learning and discussion.

 

What you should bring:

Laptop computer is strongly recommended.  Tablet is acceptable, but not optimal.

Ideas, plans of action or other activities you want to discuss.

An open mind and creative spirit.
