This is an invitation for you to attend the first meeting of a committee (yet to be named) that will consider changes to or clarifications of certain rules of the Connecticut Practice Book with the goal of making litigation over insurance contracts more efficient and cost effective while maintaining fairness for all parties.

This committee is the product of our Section’s February 2016 Symposium at UConn Law School, Getting to Less: A Symposium on Strategies for Reducing Discovery in Insurance Coverage Litigation.  During the Symposium, various types of strategies for reducing discovery were discussed, some of which would require rule changes.  For instance, one suggestion was the adoption of standard interrogatories and production requests specifically for insurance coverage cases. Another proposal was for clarifying the Practice Book Rules to specifically permit a motion for partial summary judgment on an issue of law that would not resolve an entire claim. The work of the committee will be to consider these and other proposals, draft recommendations for adoption by the Section and then follow CBA protocols for ultimate referral to the Superior Court.

In order to encourage broad participation, the first meeting of this committee will be a brown bag lunch held simultaneously at the Hartford, New Haven and Stamford offices of Murtha Cullina LLP, connected by video conference. Soft drinks and coffee will be provided. There will be no charge for attending but you must register for this meeting through the CBA and select the office in which you would like to attend the meeting:  Hartford, New Haven or Stamford.
