About the Program

Title: Cybersecurity -The Lawyer’s Professional Responsibility
Speaker: Sherwin Yoder
Understand your duties of competence, confidentiality, supervision, and other professional and legal obligations with respect to safeguarding different types of personal and client information used in your law practice. Learn about common pitfalls with the use of technology and the rising standards to which ethics opinions are holding lawyers. Get practical tips on best practices and tools that can help your firm prepare for and mitigate cyber risks, and to respond – not if, but – when a data security incident happens.
Sherwin Yoder is a partner in the litigation group of Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP, where he leads the firm’s Data Privacy and Security practice. Sherwin focuses on helping organizations mitigate information privacy and security risks and manage breach response, including related regulatory action and litigation. He also counsels start-ups and emerging companies on their privacy and security obligations in designing and launching e-commerce sites, mobile applications, IoT devices, and other technologies or transactions involving the flow of data. Sherwin has assisted entities and individuals in investigating and civilly prosecuting others for computer crimes involving theft of confidential information and breaches of privacy. He is a certified privacy professional (CIPP/US).
