On October 20, the Connecticut Bar Association Young Lawyers Section hosted its annual Pro Bono Fair and Golf Event at the Hartford Golf Club. Over 60 people attended the event, which consisted of a nine-hole round of golf followed by a reception. Attendees were able to choose whether to participate in the round of golf or only attend for the reception. Booths were set up to provide information on nine different organizations providing pro bono services in Connecticut:

  • The Center for Family Justice
  • Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence
  • Connecticut Veterans Legal Center
  • CT Afghan Asylum Project
  • CTProBono.org
  • New Haven Legal Aid Association
  • Pro Bono Partnership
  • Statewide Legal Services
  • CBA Pro Bono Programs (Free Legal Advice Clinics, CT Free Legal Answers, Lawyers in Libraries, CBA Pro Bono Connect)

During the event, CBA President Daniel J. Horgan, Pro Bono Committee Co-Chair Dan A. Brody, and Young Lawyers Section Chair Christopher Klepps provided remarks. President Horgan spoke about the ways in which pro bono work can be fulfilling and meaningful for attorneys while simultaneously helping to improve the lives of individuals facing serious obstacles and challenges. Attorney Brody discussed how pro bono cases can uniquely help newer attorneys see the larger meaning of what their work provides to their clients. Similarly, Attorney Klepps spoke about the great effect that pro bono assistance can have on individuals that cannot attain assistance through other means.

Thank you to all those who attended this year’s event as well as all the attorneys who provide pro bono services to individuals in need throughout Connecticut.
