The Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law provides oversight for law
practitioners not admitted as attorneys in Connecticut, and advises whether a
particular activity is the practice of law. Advice is provided with disclaimers
to avoid any implication that it is binding upon the recipient, or recognized by
the courts as precedent.
Please note that the UPL Committee is a non-governmental entity, and as such the UPL Committee's opinions are not binding upon either the courts of our state or the Statewide Grievance Committee.
Please note that the Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) issues its opinions on the law and facts as they exist and are presented at the time the inquiry is made and the date of the opinion. The UPL Committee does not update its opinions. It is recommended that anyone wishing to rely upon or cite a UPL Committee opinion should do independent research regarding the current state of the law and relevant facts that are the subject of such opinion.
