The Call4Law Program

Statewide Legal Services (SLS) is pleased to announce an exciting new venture - the Call4Law program - which will provide low income Connecticut residents access to justice and give volunteer attorneys an easy way to participate in changing the lives of people on the fringe.

Call4Law is a joint venture of SLS and hundreds of volunteer attorneys across the state to address the legal needs of our most vulnerable citizens: the poor, the elderly, the disabled, and children. We need your help to advise our callers in the areas of divorce, child custody, and consumer and social security denials. Statewide Legal Services will provide training, resources, and mentoring to help volunteers with unfamiliar areas of practice.

One to two times per month, volunteer attorneys will call pre-screened SLS clients to interview and advise them. The volunteer attorneys can make calls from the comfort of their own offices or any other convenient locations. The calls typically last an hour or less. Volunteers choose the types of cases they would like to have referred as well as the frequency of calls they wish to make each month. Each volunteer has the right to refuse any referral. Statewide Legal Services handles the administrative details of the program and provides malpractice insurance on every referred client.

Call4Law and Statewide Legal Services have set an ambitious goal for 2012: recruit 100 volunteer attorneys to handle one to two calls per month. This would allow our hotline to double the number of clients served each year! Please join us to ensure access to justice for every low income Connecticut resident.
