CBA’s Free Volunteer Attorney Programs

The CBA cannot provide you a lawyer, offer legal advice, or answer your legal questions. The CBA administers the programs below, which can help you connect with a volunteer attorney who might be able to answer your legal questions.

 

CT Free Legal Answers

Post your legal question online through the CT portal of the ABA Free Legal Answers website. Volunteer attorneys in CT can answer the questions online. You will receive an e-mail alert when the question receives a response. Income limits apply.

Free Legal Advice Clinics

Several times a year, the CBA hosts Free Legal Advice Clinics where members of the public can meet with a volunteer attorney for thirty minutes. Advanced registration is required. Prior to the meeting with the attorney, a volunteer contacts each participant to find out the nature of the legal issue. That way each participant can be matched to a volunteer attorney with the right knowledge and experience for their 30-minute meeting.

Lawyers in Libraries

Members of the public can meet with a volunteer attorney to receive free legal advice at a local library during a two-hour event each month. Registration in advance is required for a 20-minute appointment. Areas of law covered include landlord/tenant, immigration, family, employment, consumer rights, and personal injury.

Bankruptcy Pro Bono Program

The Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section has formed a panel of volunteer attorneys to represent needy and qualified individuals or married spouses pro bono in Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases, contested matters, and adversary proceedings. Apply to be considered for referral for potential assistance.

Limited Scope Representation
