   The Addictions: Biology, Toxicology, and Available Treatment

Presented by: Child Welfare and Juvenile Section

Description: Faculty will review the time frame of detection of drugs in urine compared to hair, the rationale for using segmented hair sampling in tracking compliance with abstinence, and the potential problems with testing for drugs of abuse in urine and hair. Speakers will discuss the biology of addiction and how various addictive substances react in the human body, including neurotransmission and homeostasis. Attendees will be provided with an overview of substance abuse treatment services offered by the Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, including services offered for clients involved in the criminal justice and court systems; and be provided with an overview of substance abuse services offered by the DCF to adolescents and their caregivers.
