Pathways to Leadership for Women Lawyers

Hosted by the Women in the Law Section in association with the Young Lawyers Section Women in the Law Committee

The Ladder Award was created by the YLS Women in the Law Committee in 2007 to honor a woman attorney who has “left the ladder down” for those women who follow in her footsteps. The award is aimed at recognizing the efforts of women in the profession who have recognized the importance of mentoring and supporting more junior lawyers in their own journeys to success in the profession. Past recipients of this award include The Honorable Anne C. Dranginis, Justice Maria A. Kahn, and Rosemary E. Giuliano.

The 2018 Ladder Award Winner

Deirdre M. Daly
Former United States Attorney
for the District of Connecticut

Deirdre M. Daly served as the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut under two presidents. Prior to her resignation in 2017, Attorney Daly helped prepare women in the office for leadership roles, supported junior attorneys by diversifying committee participation (such as the United States Attorney’s Office involvement in the interagency Education Working Group and the internal Outreach and Diversity Committees), and contributed to women’s leadership through community outreach efforts.

Featured Speaker

Justice Maria A. Kahn
Connecticut Supreme Court

Justice Maria A. Kahn was sworn-in to the Supreme Court on November 1, 2017. Prior to this appointment, she served as a judge of the appellate court and the superior court, where she primarily heard criminal matters. Before becoming a judge, she was an assistant US attorney and was responsible for complex white collar investigations and prosecutions, both civil and criminal, in the areas of health care fraud, bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and trade secrets. Justice Kahn received the Ladder Award in 2017.
