2022 Legislative Session

Rep. J.P. Sredzinski, District 112, in Newtown and Monroe, handed in his immediate resignation this week and a special election will be held in 46 days. On March 2, 2021 an election will also be held for the vacant senate seat in Bridgeport.

Robert W. Clark, Governor Lamont’s general counsel and former superior court judge and special counsel for Attorney General George Jepsen, has been nominated to the appellate bench to replace Judge Douglas S. Lavine, who turned 70 in December. A hearing before the Judiciary Committee will be held this Wednesday, February 24. Additionally, fifteen new judges will go before the Judiciary Committee for its review and approval in the next two weeks.

COVID-19

The governor is hoping to update COVID restrictions for March 19 by increasing occupancy capacity to 50 percent, capped at 100 inside and 200 people outside, depending on the daily COVID-19 numbers by that time.

PUBLIC HEARINGS, DAILY BILLS, and INFORMATIONAL FORUMS

Note that bill numbers can be entered into the Connecticut General Assembly’s Basic Legislative Document Search, which allows you to note who introduced the bill and view the present state of the proposed bill or concept. Each CBA section receives a weekly update of the bills being monitored for that section.

 

COMMITTEE MEETINGS and PUBLIC HEARINGS

Public hearings will be held in almost all the legislative committees this week, including: Veterans (definition of veterans), Public Health (aid in dying), Judiciary (equitable regulations of cannabis, Criminal Justice Commission, appointment of inspector general), Aging (a number of elder law bills), GAE (early voting, COVID-19 changes to voting, absentee), General Law (Antitrust and palliative use of marijuana and consumer privacy), plus hearings in Commerce, Finance, and Human Services. Also, major public hearings continue this week in Appropriations (reviewing general government and the budgets of Departments of Transportation and Corrections, the Judicial branch, and legislative agencies).

The following committees will meet this week to raise and/or JF bills: Banking, Public Safety, Housing, Human Services, Finance, Judiciary, and Veterans.
