CBA Hosts October 2022 Free Legal Advice Clinic

Written Monday, November 14, 2022

On October 26-27, the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Pro Bono Committee and Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut held a virtual Free Legal Advice Clinic where 18 volunteer attorneys met with 38 clients over Zoom meetings. Prior to the clinic, 19 volunteer paralegal and law students completed client intake forms and asked follow-up questions to help the attorneys prepare for the meetings and provide the best possible legal advice.

On the days of the clinic, the volunteer attorneys met with clients and provided free legal guidance on topics involving family law, housing law, bankruptcy, immigration, and more.

“These clinics help to close the access to justice gap for so many Connecticut residents who have fallen on hard economic times, yet have pressing legal questions," stated CBA President Daniel J. Horgan. "Our volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students have told me how personally rewarding it is to know they have lessened the burden for someone struggling to afford an attorney. If you have never volunteered in the past, please join us when we hold our next Free Legal Advice clinic in January.”

Thank you to all those who volunteered at this important event that supports the public’s access to legal representation. The CBA’s next Free Legal Advice Clinic will be held on January 24 and 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Learn more at ctbar.org/freelegaladviceclinics.
