Program Description

The Attorney General’s Child Protection department is staffed with over 40 attorneys.  They are dedicated to protecting the children of the State of Connecticut from abuse and neglect.  This past year, the Child Protection Department represented the Department of Children and families in thousands of Juvenile Court cases, to protect children who had been abused and neglected and help their placement in permanent safe homes.  In addition, the department defended a number of appeals involving these children before the Appellate and Supreme Court.

Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Cynthia Mahon began her career with the Office of the Attorney General in 2007, following her clerkship at the CT Appellate Court.  She began her tenure as an AAG at the New Britain Juvenile Court from 2007-2011.  She next served at the Child Protection Session in Middletown, where she tried complex, multi-day cases.   In 2014, she was assigned as the lead attorney for the Torrington Juvenile Court.  She is currently back in New Britain as the supervising AAG.  In addition, AAG Mahon serves as a faculty member for the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute.

AAG Mahon will be discussing the state of the Juvenile Court from the AAG’s perspective.  She will provide information about things that she believes that could improve an attorney’s Juvenile Law practice.
