COVID-19 and Its Impact on College Athletics

Program Description

COVID-19 has had a major impact on the viability of college sports during both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years and will potentially create major problems with respect to the types of sports offered on college campuses. This fact, in turn, will have substantial implications for colleges and universities in adhering to the equal educational opportunity provisions of Title IX. This program will explore the impact of COVID-19 on college sports and college athletes in particular. NCAA regulations relating to sports and equal access to athletic opportunities will be discussed. NCAA and Connecticut regulations relating to the training and health of athletes will be discussed as it relates to the unique challenges posed by Covid. University conduct code violations with respect to Covid will also be discussed as it relates to college athletes. Finally, the program will discuss in detail how the anticipated salary and budget cuts for university athletic departments will be impacted by the application of Title IX.
