Program Description
This program will examine the concept of "sportswashing" which can be defined as the practice of autocratic or kleptocratic regimes with poor human rights records sponsoring or hosting international sporting events, and buying well known sports franchises in other countries, in order to district from criticism of their human rights records. This program will examine the human rights picture as it relates to international sports and will discuss the public outcry of certain countries attempting to acquire ownership of certain sporting events and recognized teams or clubs.
