Webinar
Presented by the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee
About the Program
Issues affecting transgender and non-binary individuals have appeared in the media with increasing frequency, but the concept of what it means to be transgender or non-binary is still new to many people. As lawyers meet more openly transgender or non-binary clients and colleagues, they need to know how to be respectful and understanding, starting with issues they may be facing. Please join us as we discuss gender identity, terminology and misconceptions, experiences of being a transgender practitioner, and the legal framework that protects gender identity and gender expression in Connecticut. Panelists will present topics of interest followed by a fireside chat with questions to follow.
You Will Learn
- The difference between the terms gender identity and sex assigned at birth
- About pronouns and why they are so important
- About transgender youth and their journey
- About the lived experience of transgender practitioners
- How to engage respectfully with transgender and non-binary individuals, when, and where
- About the Connecticut legal framework protecting gender identity and gender expression
