Using International Animal Law to Prevent the Next Pandemic

Program Description

This program will discuss the development of international legal standards for the treatment of animals and their relationship to efforts to combat climate change and potentially help to control or mitigate the transmission of zoonotic diseases.

Learning objectives: 

  • To provide an introduction to the field of international animal rights law
  • To introduce attendees to the draft treaty on international animal rights
  • To familiarize attendees with the interplay between animal law and public health law

Professor Rajesh Reddy leads Lewis & Clark Law School’s global animal law and advanced animal law degree programs. Outside of Lewis & Clark, he chairs the International Subcommittee of the Animal Law Section of the American Bar Association and also serves as a board member for Minding Animals International. He has advanced human and nonhuman animal rights as part of his work for several nonprofits, including the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Criminal Justice Program and the Human Rights Law Network in New Delhi, India.
