Insolvent Estates and Claims:  A Practical Guide

Speakers

Scott Rosenberg, Law Office of Scott D. Rosenberg, New Haven
Lisa Davis, Davis O'Sullivan & Priest, New Haven

About the Program

The prospect of insolvency presents a dilemma for any probate practitioner.  When known in advance and handled correctly, they can be beneficial to both counsel and client despite the lack of inheritance.  When they are unexpected, or wiped out by a 4a-16 claim, both can be left disappointed.  In this seminar, we will review the practical steps and ethical considerations needed to reduce unexpected surprises in estates, in addition to providing a refresher on the nuts and bolts of claims and insolvency procedure - including some traps and oft-overlooked rules.  Specific coverage is given to the recent changes to C.G.S. § 4a-16, 17b liens and claims, and superseding federal tax issues.

  • Intake best practices and insolvency strategy
  • 4a-16 Update
  • Claims procedure and special rules
  • Claims by the State of Connecticut
  • Federal Tax issues
  • Insolvency process tracks and strategy
