Speakers

James I. Dougherty, Dungey Dougherty PLLC, Greenwich

Marissa Dungey, Dungey Dougherty PLLC, Greenwich

Program Description

James I. Dougherty and Marissa Dungey will be providing attendees a summary of developments in federal and Connecticut tax law, policy, and practice that may impact the practices of Connecticut trust and estates practitioners. Federal tax topics include: 1) a summary of the legislative and regulatory developments in 2021 and an outlook on potential developments in 2022, 2) IRS updates on estate tax closing letters procedure and what protection these letters provide, 4) cases where the taxpayer made claims against their estate planning counsel, 5) cases and IRS pronouncements focusing on valuation issues for gift and estate tax purposes including several involving Chapter 14 and one with a step transaction. They will also cover developments in Connecticut including a recap of the last legislative session, the impact of the tax amnesty program, an outlook of this legislative session, and issues practitioners should note as the Connecticut and federal exemption amounts are scheduled to match next year.
