Speakers

Christopher (Kit) Schmeisser is the Deputy Chief of the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.  Kit has responsibility for, among other things, prosecuting federal tax crimes.

Brandon Franson is a Special Agent with IRS Criminal Investigation in New Haven. Brandon is the Bank Secrecy Act coordinator for New England and investigates criminal tax crimes.

Program Description

At this presentation, Kit and Brandon will discuss: (i) the anatomy of a criminal tax prosecution (initiation, investigation, charging and sentencing) and (ii) current DOJ criminal tax enforcement priorities, including potential preparer liability.
