Ethical Considerations in this Legal New World

Speakers

Karen L. Dowd, Partner, McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP
Jonathan Friedler, Associate, McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP

Program Description

The practice of law has changed significantly in the last few years. First COVID hit, making working from home mandatory. When the world opened up again, many lawyers or their staff continued to work at least part time from home. Great for commute times, but a potential issue for ethics.

We will discuss issues to keep in mind for lawyers or staff working from home, including technology, the duties of supervising attorneys, protecting files and client information, billing, and ensuring diligence and proper client communication.

And to make practice more interesting, Artificial Intelligence has become an option for drafting legal pleadings. While some call it a game-changer, others, including courts, have been less receptive. What are your ethical obligations in using AI when representing clients? How much should you rely on it, should you disclose its use to your clients or the courts, and is it billable? Come find out.
