About the Program

This program will provide a general overview of domestic violence cases in a criminal court context, including the arrest process, court process, and possible dispositions available to defendants. The panel will include a defense attorney, a prosecutor, and a judge to provide their perspectives/roles in these matters.

You Will Learn

• A general overview of what qualifies as a domestic violence matter
• About the start-to-finish process of a domestic violence case, including what happens after arrest, the first court date, and what to expect while a case is pending
• About various disposition options, including available programs

Who Should Attend

Any attorney who practices in the criminal law realm, including those who represent defendants and victims. All levels of experience are encouraged to attend.

The Connecticut Bar Association/CT Bar Institute is an accredited provider of New York State CLE. This program qualifies for newly admitted and experienced attorneys CLE credits. 

Attorneys seeking NY CLE credit who have been admitted to the New York State Bar for two years or less must attend the live seminar for skills or ethics credit, a fully interactive videoconference, or simultaneous transmission with synchronous interactivity. Diversity, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias CLE credits are only available as non-transitional credits. If the seminar is recorded, all member registrants will receive complimentary access to the recording approximately six weeks after the program.
