About the Program
This seminar will examine recent developments in IP law. Topics will include the ongoing copyright disputes over generative AI like ChatGPT, developments around the First Amendment and trademark law, right of publicity battles in an age of deepfakes, and the evolving interaction between statutes of limitations and damages in copyright actions.

• How recent Supreme Court precedent has impacted copyright damages calculations
• How lower courts are dealing with the interaction of trademark law with the First Amendment after recent Supreme Court decisions on the issue
• How generative AI systems challenge both copyright and patent systems (and how the Copyright Office and Patent Office are dealing with them so far)
• Whether we should expect a federal right of publicity to interact with state rights of publicity
